Description
"On June 4, 1944 a German submarine known as U-505 was captured off the coast of West Africa by U.S. Navy Task Group 22.3 under the command of Chicago native Captain Daniel Gallery. This capture became one of the best-kept secrets of World War II. In 1954, the U-505 was brought to the Museum [of Science and Industry] for permanent display. In 2004, the U-505 made its 'final voyage' from outside the Museum's Henry Crown Space Center entrance to an all-new 35,000-square-foot underground exhibit space on the northeast end of the Museum. This 'Extend the Experience' DVD tells the amazing story of the U-505 as well as giving the viewer a behind-the-scenes look at this remarkable exhibit"--Container.
